DTN SpeedNet Privacy Statement
At DTN SpeedNet, protecting your privacy is very important. We want
to make your experience on the Internet as comfortable and rewarding
as possible, and we want you to make use of the Internet's vast
array of information, tools and opportunities with complete confidence.
We've created this statement to demonstrate our commitment to
privacy and security, and to let you know about the processes we
use. The statement discloses the information gathering and dissemination
practices we use on our Web site: www.dtnspeed.net. DTN SpeedNet
reserves the right to change this Policy at any time by posting
a revised privacy Policy online.
Information Collected DTN SpeedNet collects two types of personally
identifying information from users: personal information (such as
names, e-mail addresses, credit card information); and aggregated
information (such as information about traffic patterns on DTN SpeedNet;
for example how many users log into DTN SpeedNet on a daily basis).
User Information
When users visit the pages of the DTN SpeedNet sites, they may be
asked to give us contact information, such as their names and e-mail
addresses. Financial information that is collected is used to bill
the user for products and services.
Our sites use order forms for customers to request information,
products and services. Contact information from the order forms,
such as a user's e-mail or physical address, is used to send orders
and information about our company to our customers
Our online surveys ask users for contact information (such as
their e-mail addresses) and demographic information (such as zip
codes, age, or income levels). We use contact data from our surveys
to send information about our company to our users. We use demographic
and profile data to tailor our sites and display content according
to our users' interests and preferences. We run contests on our
sites in which we ask users for contact information, such as their
email addresses. The customer’s information and/or the information
of the person they referred is used to contact them.
In all cases above, users may opt out of receiving future mailings
that may result from providing email addresses. See the Choice to
Opt Out section, below.
Our sites may also record the user's IP address, which helps us
diagnose problems with our server and administer our Web site. Your
IP address also is used to gather broad demographic information.
Cookies
DTN SpeedNet uses "cookies" to collect information. A
cookie is a small data file that most major web sites write to your
hard drive for record keeping purposes when you visit them. Cookies
allow DTN SpeedNet to measure activity on the web site and to improve
your user experience, for example by remembering your passwords
and viewing preferences, thus allowing you to visit various member-only
parts of the web site without re-registering. If you are a DTN SpeedNet
member and have created your own Personal Start Page, we will use
a cookie to save your settings and provide your own personalized
information. Cookies are used by DTN SpeedNet to measure activity
on the web site and make improvements and updates based on which
areas are popular and which are not. DTN SpeedNet does not use cookies
to retrieve information from your computer that was not originally
sent in a cookie. Except for personal information voluntarily provided
by you (i.e., during membership registration), DTN SpeedNet does
not use information transferred through cookies for any promotional
or marketing purposes, nor is that information shared with any third
parties whatsoever.
Most browsers are initially set to accept cookies. If you'd prefer,
you can set yours to refuse cookies or to alert you when cookies
are being sent. However, it is possible that some parts of the web
site, such as the member-only areas, will not function properly
if you do so.
Public Forums
Please remember that any information that you disclose in other
public areas of the Internet, becomes public information. You should
exercise caution when deciding to disclose personal information.
Message Boards and Chat
Please remember that information posted to message boards and chat
areas becomes public information. Use caution when posting. Users
under the age of 18 should be especially careful not to provide
any personally identifying information while using chat rooms or
message boards. As set forth in DTN SpeedNet'S Acceptable Use Policy,
users of chat areas and message boards must follow acceptable standards
of behavior when posting messages online.
Use of Information Collected by DTN SpeedNet
DTN SpeedNet uses both the personal and aggregated information that
we collect for multiple purposes. The information is used to improve
the content of the web site, to customize the content and/or layout
of the web site for each individual user and to notify users about
updates to the web site or promotional offers or opportunities that
we believe will be of interest to you.
DTN SpeedNet may also share personal information with prescreened
third parties for marketing or promotional purposes. DTN SpeedNet
will undertake to provide users with an opportunity to decline this
service when such information is requested from you online.
If you object to DTN SpeedNet's use of personal information provided
by you for any reason, you may opt out. See the Choice to Opt Out
section, below.
Children and Privacy
DTN SpeedNet encourages parents and guardians to spend time with
their children online, and to be fully familiar with the sites visited
by their children. At various places on DTN SpeedNet, we will ask
whether users are under the age of 18, or 13, for example when requesting
personal information from users, or DTN SpeedNet may ask for parental
consent. However, while DTN SpeedNet requests this information or
permission, DTN SpeedNet relies on users to be truthful in responding
to these questions.
Individuals Under 13
No information should be submitted to or posted on the Site by users
under the age of 13 years without the consent of their parent or
guardian. DTN SpeedNet does not provide any personally identifying
information, regardless of its source, to any third party for any
purpose whatsoever unless disclosed during collection. Users under
the age of 13 are generally asked not to participate in contests
or other promotional opportunities.
Individuals 13 Through 17
DTN SpeedNet requests that children under the age of 18 do not submit
or post information to the Site without a parent or guardian's consent.
DTN SpeedNet may collect information, including personally identifying
information, from users between the ages of 13 and 17. With the
permission of their parent or guardian this information may be used
for marketing and promotional purposes by DTN SpeedNet and may be
shared with prescreened third parties. If a user or their parent
or guardian changes their mind with respect to such use, such user,
parent or guardian may stop that use -- either by e-mail request
or by modifying his/her registration information online as described
above in "Use of Information Collected by DTN SpeedNet".
Links to Other Sites
It is important to note that DTN SpeedNet contains links to sites
other than DTN SpeedNet, and that those sites may not follow the
same privacy policies as DTN SpeedNet. For instance, if you click
on a link on DTN SpeedNet, this will take you away from DTN SpeedNet
to an entirely different site. This can include links from content
providers who may use DTN SpeedNet's logo and or style as a result
of a co-branding agreement. These sites may send their own cookies
to you, and may collect information and make uses of it that DTN
SpeedNet would not. DTN SpeedNet is not responsible for the content
of other sites that you may visit from DTN SpeedNet’s sites.
Choice to Opt Out
Our sites provide users the opportunity to opt out of receiving
communications from us and our partners at the point where we request
information about the user.
Change/Modify
Our sites give users options for changing and modifying information
previously provided. To make or inquire about such changes, send
e-mail to support@dtnspeed.net, or contact Customer Service at 800-847-5231.
